Bielsa’s back heel, Ayling’s flop, Orta’s screams, and Leeds United moments you missed

[ad_1]

Leeds United landed a second consecutive seven-goal Premier League thriller on Saturday, but more importantly, this time they were on the right side of the scoreboard.

Helder Costa’s two goals matched a Mateusz Klich penalty and a Patrick Bamford goal at Elland Road against Fulham, which netted three away with no reward.

Here’s a rundown of the moments you may have missed from Saturday’s victory at Elland Road.

Movement is king for Bielsa

The benefit of being back at United’s home is the closer proximity to the benches compared to the gulf between the media and the staff at Anfield.

That means that we were able to meet again with the shouts and instructions of Marcelo Bielsa from the technical area.

As always, the order of “again” was at the top of the pile for Bielsa, who constantly demands a total effort from his players.

Movement is the feature you want more than most. Bielsa’s tactics rely on his players constantly wandering the field to swarm and confuse the opponent.

On a throw-in in the first half, his players were especially ecstatic and could be heard yelling “all moved” at will or Rodrigo and Helder Costa as Luke Ayling took the shot.

Bielsa heel

In the 15th minute Bielsa was spotted recovering the ball for Ayling with a backward drag and heel of the ball in his direction.

Ayling’s failure fails

Ayling’s fondness for buying a free kick under the nose of a referee turned into something beautiful in the Championship.

The right-back leans over the ball and waits for the slightest push to the back before approaching and taking the free kick.

However, Anthony Taylor had none of that today. There was a classic near the midline in the 48th minute and the referee did not blink.

Fulham stole the ball away from prone Ayling and counterattacked. Fortunately, it didn’t turn out much, but Ayling will need to be careful when flopping at this level with better umpires.

Elland Road renovated

People noticed that the fan cardboard cutouts were missing Wednesday night during the Carabao Cup match, but there was something new there today.

The Premier League arranged for large canvases to be spread over each seating block around the Don Revie Stand, the East Stand and the Norman Hunter Stand.

Each carried famous white slogans and a selection of club crest from every year.

Casilla was on Elland Road

Goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, excluded from the day’s call due to an ankle problem, was at Elland Road in his tracksuit on Saturday.

The Spaniard was seen mingling with club analysts in the media area before sitting down next to Leif Davis in the west stand to watch the game.

Klich frosting

Bielsa did not mention an injury to Klich, but did deal with his post-match press duties with an ice pack strapped to his right thigh.

He was up and limping, so it is unlikely to be something too serious, otherwise Chief of Medicine and Acting Rob Price would have put him to rest.

Orta interrupts another Bamford interview

Soccer director Victor Orta made headlines at the end of last season because he could be heard singing Leeds songs while Bamford spoke to the media via Zoom.

Once again, Orta can be heard yelling “let’s go” from the stands as Bamford is interviewed for television.

He made the striker pause and laugh again.
