Joe Biden has hired an all-female high-level communications team for his administration, including appointing veteran Democratic spokesperson Jen Psaki as his White House press secretary.
Ms. Psaki will be one of seven women to serve at the top ranks of Biden’s communications team, making her the first of her kind in which all senior advisers charged with speaking on behalf of a presidential administration will be women .

Previously, the White House communications team has been largely dominated by male voices, like most other aspects of the West Wing.
The decision to create the first all-female senior communications staff could be another way that Biden has decided to show the public its commitment to diversity within its administration.
“Communicating directly and sincerely with the American people is one of the most important duties of a president, and this team will have a tremendous responsibility to connect the American people with the White House,” Biden said in a statement.
“These skilled and experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to better rebuild this country,” he added.
The other members of the communications team include Karine Jean Pierre, a campaign advisor who will serve as senior deputy secretary for press, and Pili Tobar, who will become deputy director of communications for the White House. Ms. Tobar was a member of the staff of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will have Ashley Etienne, Biden’s senior campaign advisor, as the communications director at the White House. Symone Sanders, senior advisor to Biden’s campaign, will serve as Harris’s chief spokesperson.

In the east wing, Dr. Jill Biden’s communications director will be Elizabeth Alexander, a former campaign advisor and attorney from Washington.
