The Avonmouth Docks fire is still “well and truly burning” as images show smoke continuing to billow from the scene.

The fire was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m. this morning (Monday, October 5) at the docks near the M5 motorway.

Warnings have already been put in place for motorists on the freeway to be careful when driving through the area around Exit 18, as smoke from the fire drifts onto the roadway.

An eyewitness at the scene said the fire started around 4:30 a.m. and remained “well and truly burning” more than three hours later.

The fire is reported to have started around 4.30am this morning (October 5)

Images taken from the scene of the fire show that it is still burning in what appears to be a pile of scrap metal.

The flames are visible in several large piles, although exactly what has ignited has yet to be confirmed.

Images shared by the Southmead Fire Station appear to confirm that the fire is in a scrap heap.

Video of the ongoing fire also shows large amounts of smoke continuing to emerge from the scene and move away from the docks.

There has not yet been any confirmation on the cause of the fire.
