Investigations will continue today (Friday December 4) after a large explosion claimed four lives in Avonmouth yesterday (December 3).

Police confirmed last night that four people were killed and another injured in the blast after a chemical tank exploded at Wessex Water’s water recycling center in Bristol.

The workers, three Wessex Water employees and a contractor, were on top of the chemical tank when the explosion went off.

Eyewitnesses reported that emergency services rushed to the scene, with “at least ten ambulances” along with police and fire crews heading down King Weston Lane in Avonmouth.

The fire service was called at 11:22 a.m., and firefighters from six different fire stations were called in to help, while police declared a major incident and specially trained officers contacted each of those people’s families. .

The tributes have been reaching the workers. The Prime Minister said he was “deeply saddened” to learn that four people had died and Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees said that as a city, we will mourn their deaths.

The Environment Agency said the explosion had not caused a “major environmental” problem and that it would not be investigating the explosion.

Residents were urged to avoid the area, while Wessex Water assured people that the incident would not affect the water supply.
