AT LEAST 20 people have been injured in a 14-car accident on the M40 motorway.
11 people have been taken to the hospital with “serious or minor injuries”, ambulance services have confirmed.
An air ambulance and fire service responded to the horrific incident that occurred near High Wycombe at around 6 p.m.
In a tweet, the South Central Ambulance Service said: “A large number of our ambulance family attended the collision on the M40 tonight to treat more than 20 casualties.
“We had seven ambulance teams on the scene, two paramedic officers, a tactical advisor, two hazardous area response teams, the Thames Valley critical care car.
“Air Ambulance and two off-duty staff from a neighboring Ambulance Trust and a local hospital.
“They have been evaluating more than 20 injured, 11 have been taken to the hospital with serious or minor injuries.
“Other victims were evaluated on the spot by our teams, but did not require hospital treatment. A big thank you to everyone who attended tonight.”
The accident has caused around five miles of setbacks as the ambulance and police work at the scene.
It is not yet known what caused the incident.
