Villa fans react to Sheff Utd win

Aston Villa fans agree on last night’s 1-0 loss to Sheffield United.

Dean Smith’s team posted two wins on two to kick off their 2020-21 campaign and opened their Premier League season with a win at Villa Park.

Villa edged United thanks to Ezri Konsa’s header in the second half, but a determined United team that had been left with ten men from the 12th minute when John Egan was sent off for a foul on Ollie Watkins when he was out through the goal.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Arsenal’s summer signing, became a hero when he saved a John Lundstram penalty in the first half before Konsa’s goal.

Man United fans are furious over Villa’s decision

Manchester United fans pondered why the Villa Martinez goalkeeper was not penalized for going off his line when he stopped Lundstram’s penalty last night.

United, who were left with ten men for John Egan’s red card in the 12th minute, had a chance to move on in the game when Vila defender Matt Targett fouled Chris Basham after a threaded pass from Oliver Burke .

However, Martinez dived correctly to his right to save Lundstram’s penalty, becoming a hero on his debut.

The former Arsenal stopper came down well to land a strong hand on the penalty, but eagle-eyed United fans think the penalty should have been re-executed because Martinez was out of line.

Villa Star extends the stay for four years

Villa defender Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract with the club.

Mings has put pen to paper on a new agreement that will extend his stay at Villa Park until 2024.

The English international joined Villa in July from AFC Bournemouth last year, fresh off a loan deal during which he helped Smith’s side secure promotion to the Premier League in the play-offs.

Mings had signed a four-year contract with the club, but has extended his stay for one more year and the new contract is a reward for his performances last season.

Defiant Celtic Chief Issues Edouard Update

Neil Lennon insists that Odsonne Edouard’s suitors shouldn’t read anything about the striker being left out of Celtic’s last game.

The coveted forward was an unused substitute in the Bhoys’ 3-2 win over Livingston, prompting Lennon to answer questions.

Villa, Leicester and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest in the free scorer forward, but according to Lennon none have made their interest official.

“Odsonne was out with France Under-21s, having lost two games for us,” he said.
