Aston Villa discovers ‘Manchester United preference’ after £ 16m transfer offer: reports

Josh King’s preference is to return to Manchester United this summer amid interest in his services from Aston Villa.

King, the Norway international, has 12 months left on his contract at Bournemouth and is expected to leave the South Coast club this summer after his relegation to the Championship.

Villa wants to add two forwards to boost Dean Smith’s options for the new Premier League season and has almost secured the club-record signing of Ollie Watkins from Brentford.

King is believed to be a target after Villa missed out on Callum Wilson, who decided to sign for Newcastle United from Bournemouth earlier this week.

Villa was reported to have made a £ 16 million offer for the 28-year-old, who has scored just 50 top-flight goals for the Cherries since arriving from Blackburn Rovers five years ago.

King went through the academy system at United after moving to England and Athletic reports that he prefers to return to Old Trafford before the window closes.

The report adds: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be enthusiastic, but United’s hierarchy has not given a clear indication of whether they want to make an offer.”

The forward is believed to be valued between £ 15 and £ 20 million by Eddie Howe.
