Arsenal transfer news and rumors: January 2021 transfer window | Football news

All the latest news, rumors and gossip from Arsenal transfers in the 2021 winter window.

Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News told The Transfer Show on Monday:

“The priority for Arsenal during the first weeks in this transfer window will be the transfer of players.

Sead Kolasinac has gone to Schalke and William Saliba has joined Nice on a direct loan agreement. Mikel Arteta is thinking ‘he is part of my long-term plans, but at the moment he is not ready to join the team, let’s use the next six months as his transition period’.

“There are other players that Arsenal would probably consider loaning or even selling if they can. Sokratis and Mustafi both are in the last six months of their contracts. Arsenal would be open to offers.

“If they can free up some salaries and if they can free up some space on their team, then it would pave the way for Arsenal to get stronger in an area that they are looking to strengthen, which is a creative and offensive midfielder.

“But if it turns out they can’t get rid of enough players to free up enough salaries, I don’t think I can rule out Mesut Ozil perhaps finding some kind of role at Arsenal in the last six months of his contract. I think the ideal scenario for Arsenal would be for someone to replace Ozil: he is eating 350,000 a week in salary.

“But we cannot rule out Ozil continuing to play a role at Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal have confirmed that William Saliba has joined Nice on loan for the remainder of the season.

But the technical director Edu stressed: “We are sure that he will have a great race with us.”
