Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised former striker Olivier Giroud, saying the Chelsea star has “qualities that no one else has.”

Wenger led Giroud to the Premier League in 2012 and the Frenchman went on to enjoy six productive years at Arsenal, scoring 73 goals for the Gunners and starring in three FA Cup wins.

Giroud made the controversial move from London to Chelsea in January 2018 and has continued to impress despite playing as backup to Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner.

France’s World Cup winner produced a Champions League masterclass on Wednesday night, scoring four goals in a 4-0 win over Sevilla, and Wenger has praised their resilience after their latest rebirth.

The legendary coach told CBS Sports: ‘I said that many times, in addition to the Premier League, in the French team there is always a debate about him, but Olivier Giroud has, in addition to his football qualities, he has an absolutely strong and strong mentality. level of motivation and has qualities that no one else has.

“ He can always be a resource within a club, even when he does not start the game and has an impeccable mentality.

“He is a true team player, which is not always the case with forwards and, in general, I think he is an exceptional personality. And that’s why every time you think it is gone, it recovers.

‘There is no coincidence, he has more than 100 games with France. Nobody gives you 100 caps to please you. ‘

Giroud’s masterclass in Seville raised his tally to 34 goals in 98 appearances for Chelsea and he insisted after the victory that he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 34-year-old has been linked to a move out of West London ahead of the January transfer window, but Giroud said: ‘I just have to show the coach that I’m ready to fight to the end.

‘I told him at the beginning of the season, but obviously to be happy I need to be on the field a bit more.

‘The coach gave me the opportunity to play and I hope to have more opportunities again because I think I have shown him that I am ready to fight for the team. We all want to be on the pitch but we have a great squad.

“If I play a little more than at the beginning of the season, I have a good chance of being fit and ready for the Euro.

‘I had a conversation with [French national boss Didier] Deschamps and said that if the situation continues like this, I will have to make a decision in January.

“I’m pretty sure I can have more playing time and stay at Chelsea because that’s what I want. I want to win trophies with Chelsea, so basically that’s it.

In football you never know, everything goes very fast, but right now I am very happy. I am a happy man and I am proud to be a Chelsea player. ”
