Arsenal cannot wait for Nicolas Pepe to return to solve the current crisis, says Mikel Arteta

The Gunners have also had their worst start to a top flight since the 1974-75 season, while losing four straight league games at home for the first time in 61 years.

Arsenal now face a big game with Southampton on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium as they look to correct their slip.

The Saints are flying high this season, but the Gunners are boosted for the game with the return of the club’s record signing, Pepe.

“Great moments require great players and when that happens, you expect great players to do something about it,” he said.

“But we don’t trust just one person. It is not something that I like when we are going through a difficult time ”.

The Asturian has urged his side to fight to turn things around and show their character in this difficult moment.

“I love my job, believe me, and if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be sitting here,” Arteta said.

“Difficult times are necessary and you have to go through that, and with the great moments you have to make sure you enjoy them because in football unfortunately there are not so many to enjoy.

“But in tough times, you have to be prepared for that and fight.

“It’s a good test and it’s good to see how we react, but I wouldn’t put it on the players. This is how the club reacts in difficult moments as a club. And also because it is something that we transmit to the players.

“At the moment there are some cracks in how we react. Do we start to blame each other, to criticize each other, or do we start to get together and push all together?

“The example has to come from above and we have had some good examples in the last few days.

“So the players have to take responsibility, as I have to do, because at the end of the day we have to put it right on the field, which is the only area where it makes a difference.”
