Steven Gerrard says Joe Aribo has shown he’s back to his best after starring in Wednesday’s Scottish Premiership game where the Rangers beat St. Johnstone 3-0.
Having silenced Motherwell 3-1 last time out, the Gers went to McDiarmid Park to collect maximum points at the expense of Callum Davidson’s men.
For the Nigerian, who was involved from start to finish, he helped Finnish international of Sierra Leonean descent Glen Kamara score his team’s second goal, while participating in Ianis Hagi’s goal.
The performance represented one of the midfielder’s most complete outings since returning from a series of injuries in the opening weeks of the 2020-21 campaign.
“I thought Aribo really flexed his muscles and showed he’s back. He’s had a really tough start to the season with a big injury, probably the first of his career, and then a little illness that stopped him, ”Gerrard told club website.
“He’s been through the changes in the last three or four weeks and he seems to be close to getting back to his best, which is really nice.
“The passing ball, the weight, seeing it with the vision. Normally Glen Kamara tries to check and pass that but wiped his nose and finished.
“I’m happy for Glen because he might have felt sorry for himself after the weekend, but I thought he was outstanding all night.”
Aribo has four goals and two assists in 18 appearances in all tournaments for the 54-time Scottish Premier League Championship winners this season.
The 24-year-old looks forward to being involved when the Gers welcome Hibernian to the Ibrox Stadium on Boxing Day, and before that match, the Liverpool legend said: “We will get the players back and we will see our families and we will enjoy ourselves. Christmas dinner.
“I am pleased that fans can enjoy their Christmas day and hopefully stay safe and enjoy it with their families at home.
“Then on Christmas night, we go back to work. We will have a short, crisp session on Christmas night and our focus will be on Hibs as it is a very important event. “
The Rangers will look to maintain their lead at the top of Scotland’s top flight after a spectacular start to the new season.
