Red Bull was forced to change Alex Albon’s chassis before final practice at the Bahrain Grand Prix after the Thai driver suffered a heavy crash in practice on Friday.
Albon was thrown wide open at the last corner of Turn 15, and as he accelerated, the car split and he was unable to catch him, the RB16 hit the wall causing what team principal Christian Horner called a “significant amount” Of damage.

After assessing the damage, Red Bull opted to change the survival cell overnight, ahead of FP3 and qualifying on Saturday in Bahrain.

Albon is struggling to save his team seat for next season, with the team supporting him, but as he said Thursday, he knows he needs to deliver a string of good results in the last three races.
Meanwhile, AlphaTauri and Williams broke the curfew on Friday night, and the track staff remained on the track beyond the allowed time.
This was the second of AlphaTauri’s two ‘pranksters’ for the season, while Williams did it for the first time this season and therefore neither team will receive a penalty.
