Perr Schuurs has acknowledged Liverpool’s interest in signing him, but says he is focused on playing for Ajax.

The Ajax defender has been linked to a January transfer to Liverpool, who are currently without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez due to long-term injuries.

Liverpool have first-hand experience of Schuurs’ potential, having played Ajax twice in the group stage of the Champions League this season, winning both games 1-0.

According to Corriere dello Sport Liverpool are preparing a £ 27 million offer for Schuurs, but the 21-year-old claims he wants to achieve his goals at the Dutch club before considering a move to the Premier League.

“I hear it and I read it [Liverpool rumours] too, ”he told SBS6, quoted by Soccer Scoop , after Tuesday’s game at Anfield.

“This is my first season as a basic player at Ajax. I want to play here a few more seasons and win prizes. I’m not working on it yet. “

Liverpool are looking for a central defender in the next January transfer window after losing their two favorite centers to injury.

Van Dijk underwent surgery on his damaged knee ligaments in late October and, although Jurgen Klopp recently said that he is “doing really well”, he is not expected to return in the near future.

Gomez also underwent surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his left knee in November.

Joel Matip was teammates with Fabinho in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Ajax on Tuesday, in which Klopp’s team qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Despite their victory, clean sheet and qualification, Liverpool are undeniably short of players in central defense, with Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams still inexperienced.

With a month to go until the January window opens, Schuurs is one of the defenders believed to be on Liverpool’s radar and his strong performances against Klopp’s side will have been noticed.

A mistake by Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Curtis Jones to launch a Neco Williams cross, but the visitors forced Caoimhin Kelleher to make several strong saves.

“We came here for three points, but we didn’t get them,” Schuurs said. “We have created enough opportunities and [should have] earned at least one point.

“It was good, especially in the first half. Of course, I have a yellow card. So it gets a little more wait and see, that’s a factor in your head. Personally, I can remember a good game, but I am disappointed that we did not achieve more. “
