Abdoulaye Doucouré approves medical before the change of Everton

French midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré has reportedly completed his medical examination as he approaches a transfer from Watford to Everton.

Athletic reports that Doucouré, who will sign a four-year contract at Everton, underwent his medical examination today (Thursday 3 September), with a £ 22 million deal to be finalized within the next 24 hours.

It emerged on Wednesday night that Everton had agreed a fee with Watford on Doucouré, which is said to potentially increase to £ 25 million, including add-ons.

Everton made an offer in the region of £ 35 million for Doucouré last summer, a move that would have reunited him with his former Watford coach Marco Silva, but the Hornets rejected the offer.

However, following Watford’s relegation and Everton’s continued interest in the Frenchman, his services appear to have been secured at a lower price.

The 27-year-old is one of three midfielders to join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, with Allan from Napoli and James Rodríguez from Real Madrid also about to complete their move to Goodison Park.

Everton have yet to join their senior squad since the lengthy 2019-20 season ended on July 26, with 19-year-old left-back Niels Nkounkou as their only summer arrival so far.

All three Doucouré, Allan and Rodríguez could be in line for their competitive debut when Everton kick off their 2020-21 Premier League campaign in Tottenham on Sunday 13 September.

Before that, they can appear in Everton’s second and final preseason friendly at home to Preston North End on Saturday, assuming their signings are completed on time.
