The videos showed flames and black smoke billowing from the side of the MSC Lirica at around 3.30pm local time on Friday.
There were 51 members of the ship’s crew on board at the time the fire started, but no injuries were reported.

The ship was not carrying passengers due to the Covid closures and had been inactive in port since Jan.30, Greek news site Kathimerini reported.
The fire is believed to have erupted inside an empty lifeboat on deck six of the ship, a spokesperson said, although it is unclear exactly how it started.
Fire crews were called in and around 4.30pm it appeared to have brought the fire under control, although the side of the ship was badly damaged.
Europe’s cruise industry has been closed for months as countries battle the Covid pandemic.
The video showed that two lifeboats attached to the side of the ship caught fire at around 3.30pm local time, before the firefighting boats arrived.
