A B&M security guard steps in to help a sobbing boy who returned with nan after taking a Christmas toy

A grandmother has thanked a kind stranger who intervened when her grandson accidentally stole a toy from a store.

Unbeknownst to his father, four-year-old Carson Doolan walked out of the B&M store in the Bootle Strand Mall with a Christmas toy he had picked up from the shelves.

The discovery was only made when Carson’s father, Mark, was unexpectedly called to work and called Carson’s nanny to take care of him.

When Carson’s grandmother, Anne Spencer, realized what had happened, she immediately brought the four-year-old back to the store so he could return the toy and apologize for taking it.

Anne, 52, said: “My grandson went to his dad when he got a call to go to work, so he took him to another store.

“It wasn’t until he handed it to me that we realized he had left the store with a toy.

“I took my grandson back to B&M so he could apologize for taking the toy and giving it back to him. My grandson was distraught, sobbing, when this lovely boy came up and bought him the toy.”

She added: “I took it back to the store to return it because it has to learn that you can’t just take what you want without paying for it.

“I was not raised that way, my children were not, and I don’t want my grandchildren to be raised that way.

“This complete stranger came up and asked what was wrong. He said, ‘Do you want it, love? I’ll buy it for him. I have kids of my own.

“I’m speechless. Normally I would have said ‘no’. Carson can’t be without him, and both his mom and dad work.

“Carson had a big smile on his face and tears were running down his cheeks.

“I don’t know how much the toy cost, but even if it cost 99 pence, I can’t thank you enough.”

The man who bought the Paw Patrol toy for little Carson yesterday (Friday) is known only as “Michael” and is believed to be a security officer at the B&M store.

Anne from Litherland said: “I don’t know if my grandson learned his lesson, but I would like to thank him very much for making Carson and me so happy.”
