A 26 ° C heat wave is forecast for the holiday weekend after parts of the UK were hit by winds of 50 mph and torrential rain overnight.
The Meteorological Office issued a yellow wind weather warning covering Devon, Cornwall and Wales.
Temperatures are expected to rise during the week from around 18-19C to a high of 25-26C on Saturday.
But the first low and high pressure areas met in the first part of this week, bringing some heavy rains, while most places will be bright and sunny.
Heavy rains were expected overnight as low and high pressure areas collided, with the southwest most affected by heavy rains, some thunder and strong winds.
The yellow weather warning was in effect from 9 p.m. last night until 10 a.m. from this morning.
The Meteorological Office said: “The strongest winds are expected to the west of Dartmoor and in parts of west Cornwall, where gusts of 55-60 mph are likely, which may lead to some disruption.”
High pressure is expected to start operating on Tuesday with temperatures around 15 ° C, but mercury will rise steadily and most parts will enjoy pleasant weather.
High temperatures around 20 ° C are likely in London and the South East on Wednesday.
By Friday some parts of the south will enjoy temperatures of 24C.
This is well above average for this time of year 18C May.
The Meteorological Office told The Sun Online: “During the week, temperatures will constantly rise to a maximum temperature of around 25-26 ° C in London and the South East.”
Saturday is expected to be the warmest day this week, although some rains will begin to accumulate.
However, temperate weather is likely to stop on Sunday and early next week, where temperatures will be much cooler, especially in the north, as temperatures drop to around 12-13 ° C.
