18 million people entered the UK WITHOUT detection when the coronavirus spread worldwide – The Sun

AROUND 18 million people were admitted to Britain without any detection, as the deadly coronavirus spread across the world.

Shocking figures from the Home Office reveal that only 273 travelers from the Wuhan virus zero zone and Tokyo were forced to isolate themselves after entering the UK.

They arrived on four flights from China and Japan in January and February when the virus spread worldwide and were taken to specialized facilities in Milton Keynes and Merseyside.

But between January and March 23, when the blockade took effect, more than 18 million entered Britain without detecting the deadly disease, reports The Guardian.

Although the figures include arrivals from all destinations, the Interior Ministry believes that tens of thousands of them would come from countries devastated by the disease.

Since the first victim of the killer bug on March 1, at least 28,734 people have died from the virus and 186,245 have been infected.

Labor MP and Select Home Affairs Committee member Stephen Doughty said the surprising numbers “believed in begging.”

He told the newspaper: “On what scientific basis were a handful of flights from Wuhan and one from Tokyo selected for extreme attention? But not a single flight from northern Italy, Spain or the United States?

“The fact that many of these people likely arrived and traveled across the UK with little or no adherence to social estrangement, and with no border controls or protections, just a smell of hand sanitizer, is deeply disturbing. Much less the arrival of 3,000 fans from Madrid as the pandemic accelerated.

However, arrivals continue to this day, with no formal quarantine requirements. It is simply amazing. Who made these decisions? And on what basis?

The top scientists on the panel organized by former chief scientific adviser Sir David King, called for the immediate implementation of border controls to prevent the entry of more infected people.

The chairman of the epidemiology and public health section of the Royal Society of Medicine, Gabriel Scally, said: “There are countries that seem to have made effective use of their island status, such as New Zealand.”

He added that the United Kingdom was one of the few remaining countries that still had open borders, which “puts us in sudden danger.”

Today, the New Zealand Prime Minister announced that the country’s borders will remain closed for “a long time.”

The country has recorded a death rate of just 1 percent, but Prime Minister Jacinda Arden announced plans to keep the borders closed for the foreseeable future.

Ninety-six percent of countries have introduced travel restrictions due to the coronavirus.

DO NOT CHECK IN TRAVELERS

It comes just weeks after Matt Hancock revealed that at least 15,000 people a day are flying to the UK without health checks.

The Health Secretary said the equivalent of 105,000 passengers a week entered the UK from countries that include severe coronavirus outbreaks, including the United States, China, Spain and Italy.

Pressure on the government has increased by failing to impose health checks or a period of isolation for people arriving at UK airports.

But the government insists that routine health checks for all passengers upon arrival would do nothing to stop the spread of the disease due to the magnitude of the outbreak in the UK.

Whiz Air will start commercial flights again on Friday, one of the first to do so, which means others will surely follow suit soon.

Anyone traveling on board one of their planes must cover their faces and stay away from others while they fly.

It comes after the Gatwick airport chief said travelers should be tested for coronavirus 48 hours prior to takeoff once the block is complete.

The terminal’s executive director also asked passengers to carry “health passports” to demonstrate that they have everything clear and wear face covers during flights.

Similar mandatory measures are already being considered elsewhere in Europe after the deadly outbreak that paralyzed world travel.
