McDonald’s has revealed which UK restaurants will open for delivery on May 13 after closing sites due to the coronavirus blockade.
The first 15 restaurants to reopen for McDelivery only, as of 11 am on Wednesday, May 13, are in the south of the country.
Chelmsford Riverside, Chelmsford Westway, Ipswich Cardinal Park, Boreham Interchange, Luton Leagrave, Watford Hertfordshire Arms, Chaul End Lane, Luton, Beechings Way, Gillingham, Sittingbourne Retail Park, Gillingham Bowaters, Tooting, Dalston, Welling, Harrow, Luton George Street.
French fries, Big Mac’s, and cheeseburgers will be available to order, but there will be no breakfast menu from the start.
As announced last week, these restaurants will open from 11 a.m. at 10 p.m. and they will have a limited menu. Customers will be able to order a variety of favorites like cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and Big Macs. Vegetarian options will also be available, including vegetable dishes.
McDonald’s is introducing a range of security measures including:
· Perspex screens and floor marks will be introduced in specific areas
· Additional protective equipment including non-medical grade face masks
· All employees will be asked to confirm that they are fit and able to work, and non-contact thermometers will be used to take temperatures when arriving at work each shift.
· Social distancing measures will be introduced for delivery and service partners.
McDonald’s will temporarily not serve breakfast. The company said it will explore ways to help its employees change menus safely and will reintroduce its breakfast menu as soon as possible.
Food will be delivered with the company’s partners, Uber Eats and Just Eat.
Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: ‘As part of our reopening planning, we have been listening to you and our employees, and have been working closely with UK and Irish governments and trade bodies to help to ensure that we do it responsibly. We have deliberately taken our time, we want to do this well.
‘We have been conducting controlled trials to explore the safest way to reopen our restaurants. To give us all the confidence in the new operational measures we are introducing to keep you and our employees safe, we ask our employees for their opinions, we have incorporated a large part of their comments and we will continue to listen and learn. The tests have proven to be successful.
Rest assured that we are working hard to reopen more restaurants, but I am convinced that this must be at the right pace with the well-being of our employees, suppliers and customers in mind. Thank you for your patience, ‘added Mr Pomroy.
McDonald’s laid off 135,000 employees when it temporarily closed the store in March.
More than 400 tonnes of food has been distributed to charities and food banks across the UK and Ireland since the coronavirus crisis began.
According to government regulations, food companies may operate as take-out and delivery food establishments under closure.
Other companies that have moved to limited store reopens or single-delivery services include Five Guys, Nando’s, KFC, and Burger King.
Chicken McNuggets will be included in the new limited menu
Pret A Manger recently announced plans to partially reopen as pressure mounts for an exit plan from the blockade that is plaguing the economy.
Its stores will open near GP hospitals and surgeries for delivery and take-away services only.
But the Greggs Street bakery has postponed the reopening of 20 stores next week for fear of overcrowding.
Greggs said last week that he was going to reopen some of its branches in the Newcastle area to test whether it could function without breaking social distancing rules, but has now changed its mind.
