The wife of former Premier League big shot Kevin Phillips was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a young friend was stabbed.
Julie Phillips, 49, had broken the closing rules for visiting a group of boys in a two-bed townhouse when a fight broke out Saturday night.
The mother of four was detained overnight and interrogated with two 20-year-old men, but was released without charge.
The men meet Kevin and Julie’s oldest daughter.
The victim, named locally as 20-year-old Aigars Lipentis, remained in hospital Monday after paramedics found him in critical condition at Lichfield, Staffs.
Meanwhile, former Sunderland, Southampton and England striker Kevin, 46, denied local rumors that his wife was having an affair with one of the men.
He said that she had been drinking beers at home.
Speaking at her Rugeley home, Staffs added: “Julie witnessed the incident and was released without charge.
“As you can imagine, she was very traumatized.
“But when it comes to any other suggestions, they don’t make any sense.”
His wife, whose Range Rover was towed from the scene so police could search for clues, told officers that he had been visiting his mother before stopping at the house.
A neighbor said she had heard a man scream and added: “It was terrifying.”
A man at the party is believed to have fled and crashed into a Kwik Fit garage more than a mile away.
On Monday, Nathan Michaels, 19, was charged with intentionally injuring and possessing a sword when he appeared before JP.
He was detained until June 5.
One of the 20-year-olds arrested is under investigation for an alleged drug crime.
In March 2005, The Sun surprised Julie by cheating on Kevin with a toyboy mobile phone salesman.
He spent lunchtime romping with Richard Martin, 24, and even showered him with cash.
But she and Kevin managed to save their marriage and had another child together.
