Aston Villa and Wolves receive grim Premier League warning from FA president

FA President Greg Clarke admitted that it is difficult to see football fans enter the field any time soon.

Both the Premier League and the EFL are currently suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Aston Villa last played almost two months ago, Dean Smith’s team suffered a 4-0 loss to Leicester City in front of more than 32,000 fans at King Power Stadium on March 9.

The wolves, meanwhile, tied 1-1 at Olympiakos three days later in a Europa League closed-door tie.

And clubs are warned that they will have to get used to playing in empty stadiums for the foreseeable future.

Under the ‘project restart’ proposal, the remaining 92 top-tier matches would take place on eight to 10 wards across the country with no side playing at home.

Clarke wrote in a letter to the FA Governing Council: “The reality is that we just don’t know how things are going to turn out.

“But with the social distancing established for some time, we face substantial changes in the entire soccer ecosystem.

“For example, it is difficult to foresee crowds of fans, who are the soul of the game, who will return to the matches any time soon.”

Clarke also revealed that, due to current uncertainty, the FA was forced into a “sensible” budget cut of £ 75 million.

“In the worst case, this would be necessary over the next four years to make up for a deficit of £ 300 million,” he said of the budget cut.
