“It’s annoying … It should have gone a little further”: Former Manchester United youth Ravel Morrison reveals heartbreak after Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand claim he should have been a £ 100m player
- Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand have been discussing the fall of Ravel Morrison
- The couple claims that he had a potential of £ 100 million and that he was more talented than Paul Pogba.
- Morrison came through the Manchester United academy but was sold to West Ham
- Sir Alex Ferguson tired of Morrison’s lack of discipline at the club
- He has become a day laborer, far from his great promise.
Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand’s comments about Ravel Morrison’s wasted potential have “upset” Manchester United’s former wonder boy.
The 27-year-old midfielder, currently on loan at Sheffield United MIddlesbrough, was one of England’s best prospects going through the youth ranks, with Rooney saying: ‘I saw Paul Pogba go through, Jesse Lingard, all these players and Ravel was better than any of them for a kilometer and a half.
Morrison has now responded, telling TalkSport: ‘Obviously surprising comments, especially for the player who is Rooney. He’s probably one of the best to come out of England, so these are great comments from a great player.
‘It bothers you a bit that it could have gone a little further. It should have gone a little further. I still hope to go a little further.

Manchester United icons say former academy graduate had world-class potential
Morrison won the FA Youth Cup with Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingaard before his career waned
‘But for the likes of Pogba and Jesse; I think they are both great players. I think we had a great team, born around 92 and 93, that area of our year.
“I knew he had skill, but I didn’t realize it and I didn’t understand … obviously these are important players and I didn’t understand his thoughts at the time” I used to go there and I loved playing soccer. ‘
However, Morrison’s struggles off the field led him to frustrate Sir Alex Ferguson, as the Scotsman sold him to West Ham at age 18 and said: “I think he is better off Manchester.”
Morrisson has played for 10 clubs since then, including spells in Ostersund, Lazio, the Mexican side of Atlas and, more recently, Middlesborough, seeing what Ferdinand described as potential to ‘become a £ 100m player’ without being met.
Morrison was first sold to West Ham before traveling around the world to find a way.
Meanwhile, Pogba has lifted a World Cup and has realized its enormous potential.
The former England Under-21 international, who is now eligible to play in Jamaica, won the FA Youth Cup alongside Pogba and Lingaard before his career deviated dramatically from the great progression the other two have accomplished.
Morrison is on loan at Boro until the end of the season after returning to the Premier League in the summer.
He has made only six appearances between the two clubs since returning to England, breaking 20 appearances in a league season in 2012-13 with Birmingham City.
