The next Sonos speaker to get an update could be its soundbar: Leaked images of a new Sonos Playbar have been leaked on the web, supporting previous reports that the device is actually online for an update.
The images appeared in Zatz Not Funny, although they do not tell us much about what a new Playbar could bring. These are “incomplete” renderings according to the company, so they don’t show all the ports on the new device.
What we can say is that the updated version of the Sonos Playbar will be a much sleeker, more streamlined design, smoothing out some of the edges of the thicker original speaker that was released in 2013.
It seems inevitable that any new Sonos playbar will come with support for AirPlay 2 streaming, like all newer products from the audio company. It should also come with support for Recently renewed software applications.
Updated speakers
Leaked Sonos Playbar images have no indication of when the updated speaker might arrive, though Sonos likely had to adapt its launch schedule as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, 9to5Mac reported a tip that the Playbar, Play: 5, and Sub speakers will receive updates in the near future, with a possible product launch scheduled for June and support for Dolby Atmos included.
Sonos has been regularly updating its lineup year after year, adding features like built-in functionality from Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri on the go, but Playbar is among the devices that now need to be updated.
So far, Sonos has received no official news about possible product updates, but as soon as something becomes official, we will inform you here.
