Eta Aquariids, the annual meteor shower in May, will be visible from this afternoon in the Portsmouth area.
If time permits, the cosmic screen could produce up to 40 shooting stars per hour at its peak.

The US space agency NASA said: ‘When comets get close to the sun, they leave a dusty trail behind them.

“Every year, Earth passes through these rubble trails, allowing parts to collide with our atmosphere, where they disintegrate to create fiery, colorful streaks in the sky.”
NASA said meteors will be visible in both the northern and southern hemispheres.
