Landfills were reopened this week and local government secretary Robert Jenrick said Tuesday that he expected the councils to be reopened “in a matter of weeks.”

Photographs outside a tip in Bolton today showed around 100 cars lining up around the block to litter.

The Costa coffee chain also saw long lines as it opened more drive-thru services after starting an initial test two weeks ago.

The baristas were photographed wearing masks as they served anxious motorists who wanted their caffeine fix.

In Greater Manchester, social distancing measures will be followed in councils with a license plate recognition system in place.

Visits will be limited to certain days based on your vehicle registration.

It comes after Jenrick warned that delaying the opening of waste centers will mean longer lines when they finally do.

But other councils remain undecided to reopen landfills in the coronavirus blockade, raising concerns about staff absences and lack of personal protective equipment (PPE).

And police will be needed to manage the “unavoidable” traffic queues at the ends and a permit system, and longer opening hours could be considered to meet the demand, said Councilman David Renard, LGA environmental spokesman.

He said: “HWRCs (household waste recycling centers) can only reopen when they have enough staff and social distancing measures are in place to protect staff and the public, which remains paramount.

“To safely manage visitor flow and pent-up demand, police will need to manage unavoidable traffic queues at sites, taking into account the need to take supportive measures, such as a permit system and longer opening hours. “

He said it is crucial that staff receive PPE and said that reopens will be decided locally based on risk assessments taken in each area of the local authority.

People who intend to go are reminded to only do so “if they really need to” and to stay within two meters of people at all times.

New research this week showed that fly drop had increased by 300 percent in rural communities during the shutdown.

Researchers from the universities of Southampton and Portsmouth said the increase in the dumping of illegal waste followed the closure of almost all councils, while at the same time, the number of DIY projects increased by households trapped in their homes.

Two people were arrested in Lincolnshire on Thursday after a raid on an illegal waste site that the Environment Agency said was the size of a soccer field.

We urge Sun readers to sign a petition asking that our NHS staff receive the George Cross.

We are supporting a proposal by Lord Ashcroft to honor our health heroes with the gallantry gong given for acts of bravery that did not take place in battle.

A No10 spokesperson said: “The NHS is doing a fantastic job and the nation will want to find a way to thank you when we have beaten this virus.” SAS hero Andy McNab added: “George’s Cross Award would demonstrate emotional appreciation.”

And shocking photographs revealed that an illegal dump in Wales now has so much trash that it can be seen from space.

The eyesore, in Newport, is filled with household items including sofas, bathtubs, refrigerators, and freezers.

Hundreds of tires, piles of clothing, suitcases, and doors are scattered across the disused highway of the M4.

The site is now so littered with trash that the debris piles are visible from the satellite in Google Earth.

Resident Chris Taylor filmed the garbage ladder while exercising daily with his family.

He said, “It’s been like this for some time. The frustrating thing is that the scenery around it is amazing. The bike route is lovely, but then you turn to this.

“It is a concern since it is very close to the houses. At the end of the road there are remains of an abandoned ship.”
