Diogo Jota declared his intention to always positively impact Liverpool’s performance after he came off the bench to score twice in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Arsenal.

The forward was named among the substitutes at the Emirates Stadium after his effort with Portugal during the international break.

And he was instantly influential after being featured on the hour, when he drove in a header from an excellent center from Trent Alexander-Arnold to give the Reds a well-deserved lead.

Mohamed Salah added a second just minutes later, before Jota lunged in his second of the game from close range in the final stages as Jürgen Klopp’s side moved within two points of fourth-ranked Chelsea.

After the game, the number 20 was interviewed by Sky Sports. Read on for a transcript …

On the importance of performance and result in the race for the top four …

Very important. I said after the last game, to think of higher places on the table, we must do our job. [which] is to win all the games to the end. If we do it, I think we have the opportunity to be there … I think if we do our job we have a good chance of being there because it is very difficult to win in the Premier League. Today we did our work, let’s move on to the next one.

On his prowess in the air …

Sometimes you go a long time without certain types of goals, but the most important thing is that I was there to make a difference and that is what I always want to do.

On the delivery of Alexander-Arnold for his first goal …

Unreal! I think that, not only him, we have very good crosses in the team. We need to take advantage of that. It worked today and I hope it can work in the future as well. All [made the delivery excellent]. I just timed my run, so it was so much easier for me to finish.

On his impact from the bench …

It doesn’t matter if you start at the starting eleven or on the bench, you need to be ready to make an impact. That is what I did today and that is what I always want to do.

On the full computer screen …

To be honest I expected a little more possession from Arsenal, they usually do. But that showed that we press very well, we don’t allow them to have that possession and in the end we control the game with the ball and with the goal.

On the feeling ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid …

It’s very important. It’s another clean sheet [which] it is also very important. Everyone is working hard and well and now we have that tough game against Real and we want to do it too.
