A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in Hale.
Police were called to a home on Canterbury Road just before 9.15am today (Wednesday).
They were initially called upon to report a woman with fatal injuries.
The emergency services came and, sadly, the woman, in her 70s, was pronounced dead.
A 72-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries to his neck and arm.
Detective Superintendent Neil Jones of GMP’s Serious Crimes Division said: “This is understandably a distressing incident for those living in the nearby community, but I want to assure residents that we have officers on site who are moving forward a series of lines of research.
“We are doing everything we can to fully establish the circumstances of the woman’s death and give her family some much-needed answers.
“Detectives remain on the scene and there is a cordon in place, but I urge anyone with information to come forward.
