Coronavirus vaccine certificates could pave the way for Britons to take a European holiday this summer under new EU plans.
Digital green certificates would act as proof that a person has had a COVID-19 vaccine, tested negative for the virus or recently recovered from it, EU leaders have said.
The European Commission’s proposal would facilitate “safe and free movement” across the continent for EU citizens and travel to the bloc from other countries.
This would mean that as long as the country accepts travelers from the UK, British people will be able to go on holiday there if they can prove they are safe to travel.
Nations like France, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus have already confirmed that they are ready to welcome tourists from the UK this summer.
But other states are concerned that the new measures will discriminate against large numbers of people who have not yet had a coronavirus vaccine.
It comes amid great concerns about the slow unfolding of coups within the EU.
On Wednesday, the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen appeared to threatens to block vaccine exports to the UK and other countries with relatively faster implementations.
The ministers struck back, describing the measure as “risky” and saying that vaccine manufacturers have a legal obligation to comply with existing contracts.

The government has promised that all UK adults will have their first dose by the end of July.
This, combined with a review on international travel on May 17, could mean that a European vacation is a much more realistic prospect than previously thought.
On the UK side, Cabinet Minister Michael gove you have been tasked with carrying out the review of so-called ‘vaccine passports’ and will report your findings Prime Minister Boris Johnson 12th April.
Johnson said last month that documents proving someone has been hit “raise all kinds of problems,” but added that certificates allowing international travel “will be a feature of our lives in the future.”
The NHS Coronavirus app is believed to be able to offer such a feature.
EU digital green certificates would be available on paper or digitally, but the process for obtaining one and a timeline has yet to be revealed.
The plan will be discussed next week during a summit of EU leaders.
