Dancing On Ice star Sonny Jay has been announced as the winner of the 2021 series in Sunday night’s tense finale.
Capital FM host Sonny, 27, and his skating partner Angela Egan competed with Faye Brookes and Matt Evers after Colin Jackson and his partner Klabera Komini were eliminated during the show, placing third.
The two finalists skated the Bolero, a rendition of Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s most famous routine, and the audience decided who was ultimately crowned the winner.
Hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield congratulated the stars when the exciting news was announced alongside judges Ashley Banjo, John Barrowman, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
Phillip asked, “You are the 2021 champion! How do you feel?”
“That’s crazy, thank you very much,” Sonny gushed.
“I wanted to get out of this competition and be able to skate with a beer in hand, now I can do it and I have won it all! I feel like I have completed life.”
Holly told Faye: “And of course Faye and Matt, our runners-up, you’ve been great too! Getting to the final is amazing too, it’s been an incredible year for talent and you’ve done so well.”
“Exactly, all I wanted to do was get here, I took it as a personal challenge, and I couldn’t have gone to a better guy,” Faye replied.
Many were surprised by the result, as Faye had been the bookmaker’s favorite to win, but the spectators were delighted with Sonny.
One tweeted: “Congratulations to Sunny Jay and Angela for winning the #Dancing Eleven final.
“Amazing skating and so much fun to watch. Sunny just got better week after week. Good job!”
Another gushed, “Well done Sonny Jay … You and Angela were absolutely amazing !!”
“Huge congratulations to Sonny Jay, tears welled up in my eyes when they announced the winner of #dancing Very happy for you, well deserved, “added a third.
The final saw all of the previous stars return to the ice for one last skating with their partner, except for the few who were still too injured to perform.
