A man has suffered life-changing injuries after a van collided with a truck parked in a siding on the A55.
Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway of the highway near Broughton around 12 p.m. Thursday after the truck crashed into the HGV.
The driver of the van has now been taken to the hospital in serious condition.
A police spokesman said: “Shortly after noon the police were called to report a collision in which a pickup truck collided with an HGV dump truck that was parked in a parking lot on the westbound driveway between the shopping center junction. Broughton and the A5104 junction.
“Emergency services attended and the driver of the van was airlifted to the hospital in Stoke with serious, life-changing injuries.”
The police are now asking for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Highway Police Unit said: “The van was traveling from the direction of the post [roundabout] Heading to North Wales and I am calling for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have footage of the incident or the moments leading up to the collision, to contact us.
“We are also asking the drivers of two heavy vehicles who were parked in a parking lot on the opposite road at the time and who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.”
The highway is currently closed and is likely to remain closed for some time, police said.
Emergency services, including the Wales Air Ambulance, were called in to help with the accident.
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called today at 12:19 pm to receive reports of a two-vehicle traffic collision on an A55 ramp in Broughton.
“We attended the scene with a rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances and the Air Ambulance of Wales.”

The fire service said they sent three teams to help with the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who can assist with the investigation is requested to contact the officers of the Highway Police Unit at 101 or via live web chat quoting the incident number Z029998.
