STEVEN GERRARD has been sent to the stands after telling referee John Beaton that he was ‘fucking wrong’ in booking Alfredo Morelos.
The Rangers coach faced the whistler on the field at halftime in his team’s clash with Livingston.
It came after Light Blues star Alfredo Morelos was booked for allegedly going for a penalty.
Sky Sports cameras followed Gerrard as he headed towards Beaton on the halftime whistle.
Then he was heard saying, “Aren’t you talking to me?”
Then Beaton was heard replying, “I can’t.”
Gerrard then added, “I know why you’re not talking to me, it’s because you fucking got it wrong.
“You are off duty.”
Gerrard received a yellow card from Beaton before he was shown a red card and sent to the stands seconds later.
Sky Sports expert Kris Boyd acknowledges that Beaton lost control of the game for a brief period.
‘CLEAR PENALTY’ Morelos cautioned for diving but SHOULD HAVE been a penalty, says Walker
He praised the whistler for the way he handled the game after returning for the second half.
At the same time, he admitted that he could understand Gerrard’s frustration, but insisted that this was no excuse for his behavior.
Speaking after the game, Boyd said: “There was a five minute period there where John probably lost control of the game.
“But I must say, the second half, I thought he came out and he refereed it well.
“A lot of umpires could have collapsed under the pressure put on them.
“You can understand Steven Gerrard’s frustration.
“It’s not an excuse. You can’t attack the referee at half time, but you can understand his frustration.”
