WHAM BAM
Patrick Bamford (£ 6.9 million) finally delivered the Double Gameweek goods when he scored in the Leeds meeting with Southampton.
After seeing a second-half effort ruled offside against the Wolves, the mid-priced forward notably adjusted his career to convert Tuesday night.
Tyler roberts (£ 4.6 million) put him in the middle of the Southampton defense for a routine finale, his 13th goal of the season and his 21st attacking comeback.
Backed by 1.6 Fantasy Premier League coaches for the Double Gameweek 26 captaincy, Bamford has produced a goal or an assist in five of his last six league games at home. That bodes well for more returns considering that three of Leeds’ next five Premier League matches are at Elland Road.
As usual, the size of Bamford’s last score could have been larger. His best chance outside of the second-half goal came in the third minute as he passed through the middle and, when he probably should have unleashed an effort from inside the Southampton area, he fired Roberts, who was unable to reach the pass.
Meanwhile, Bamford even contributed on the other end of the field in the second half, converting a Jannik Vestergaard (£ 4.7 million) headed over the bar in the 64th minute.
RAPH TRADE
As was the case at Wolves on Friday night, Raphinha (£ 5.4m) was exceptionally unlucky not to come back with another massive loot, although, like Bamford, he at least found the net.
Despite being one of Leeds’ best players against Southampton, the Brazilian winger was denied both goals and assists with frustrating regularity due to his 9.7% ownership.
In the 24th minute, Raphinha found some space behind Ryan bertrand (£ 5.0 million) with a breakneck run and could have gone down on a penalty, but faced an unmarked Roberts, who ran and skied with a great opportunity.
Then 14 minutes later the Leeds player was played through the goal in a gold-edged one-on-one with Alex McCarthy (£ 4.5m) just for Oriol Romeu (£ 4.5m) to return with all the effort of a Bamford captain to put up possibly one of the best tackles of the season to deny it.
There were two more glaring pass failures by Raphinha in the second half that would have greatly frustrated his sponsors.
Roberts fired wide again in the 50th minute earlier Diego Llorente (£ 4.4 million) forced an impressive save from McCarthy, but he should have scored himself.
It was in the final stages that Raphinha finally got his fair share, scoring a free kick from the box after a foul on Hélder Costa (£ 5.0 million).
Alignment lessons
Stuart dallas (£ 5.0 million) returned to central midfield against Southampton, albeit only after another forced trade for Bielsa.
The Northern Ireland international started the game as a left back once again, Leeds’ cause aided by Llorente making only his third appearance since joining in the summer.
“(Llorente’s departure is) necessary at this time and we hope he can show the qualities that brought him here.” – Marcelo Bielsa
However, Dallas still found its way to central midfield thanks to an injury to Mateusz klich (£ 5.2 million) in the second half.
With Pascal Struijk (£ 3.9 million) occupying the Kalvin Phillips (£ 4.9 million) in defensive midfield, Ezgjan Alioski (£ 4.4 million) was the closest replacement with Dallas able to step up.
Like Raphinha, she was also unlucky enough not to get even bigger loot. It was Dallas who played Bamford for that opportunity that tried to get past Roberts before the forward missed another key Dallas pass in the 52nd minute, forcing a good save from McCarthy.
Still, that forward shift allowed Dallas to get involved in the goals anyway, hitting a shot on the edge of the box past McCarthy after a cross from Costa in the 78th minute.
Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; Struijk; Harrison (Costa 46 ′), Roberts (Hernandez 75 ′), Klich (Alioski 59 ′), Raphinha; Bamford.
Southampton XI (4-2-2-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek; Tella (Minamino 58 ‘), Romeu (Djenepo 70’), Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond (Ings 58 ′), Adams.
