The Duke of Edinburgh is likely to stay in the hospital for the weekend and into next week to rest and observe, Sky News understands.

It is also understood that Prince philip he is in a good mood and the doctors are very cautious.

The 99-year-old Duke was admitted to the Rey Eduardo VII Hospital in London on Tuesday night as a “precautionary measure” after feeling bad.

A royal source said the problem was not related to the coronavirus, that he was taken to the hospital by car rather than an ambulance, and entered without help.

Both the Duke and the Queen had his COVID-19 vaccinations in January.

The latest update on the Duke’s health comes after his grandson. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan announced that they will no longer be active members of the royal family.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said the royal family was “saddened by their decision” but the couple “remain a very dear member of the family.”

Prince Philip retired from public office in 2017 and has rarely been seen since.

He last appeared in public in July 2020 when he transferred his role as Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles to his daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

He has stayed with the Queen at Windsor Castle since coronavirus the restrictions were first introduced last year.

In his old age, the Duke has suffered from various ailments, including treatment for a blocked coronary artery at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire in December 2011.

He later received treatment for a bladder infection in June 2012, forcing him to miss the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Exploratory surgery on her abdomen followed in June 2013, and she began wearing hearing aids in 2014, at age 93.

He withdrew from a Battle of Jutland anniversary event in June 2016 citing a minor ailment that was followed shortly after by his retirement in 2017.

Philip was involved in a car accident near the royal property in Sandringham, Norfolk, in January 2019, but was unharmed and did not go to the hospital.

He spent four nights at King Edward Hospital in December 2019, where he was treated for a “pre-existing condition” before being discharged on Christmas Eve.
