Fernando Alonso will not miss the preseason tests, according to Marca, who reports that his doctors have given him a “good prognosis” after his cycling accident.

Alonso was involved in an accident on Thursday, the Spaniard being hit by a car while in training near his home in Lugano, Switzerland.

Initial reports claimed that he suffered multiple fractures, while others claimed that it was his jaw that was injured.

According to Marca, it’s the latter and won’t keep you out of the car for preseason testing.

“The blow was in the face, without affecting the arms or legs, and even the jaw could have been affected with a fracture and some teeth according to the computed tomography performed,” reports the Spanish publication.

“Doctors seem to have a good prognosis, as they would have assured him that it is not so bad that he will not miss the tests in mid-March or the start of the season in Bahrain on March 28.”

The report adds that Friday’s tests will determine if the Alpine driver requires an operation.

“In any case, it will be the tests, with less swelling in the area, which will determine whether a small operation is necessary or what treatment the driver should take and the final degree of severity,” he continued.

The driver and team face covers are now available in the official Formula 1 store!

Dr. José González explained: “If there is a mandibular fracture, the tests will be because they want to see if there is a displacement and if they put a plate on it.

“If it really is a clean fracture, no further testing should be necessary.

“Either way, whatever it is, it’s not a major injury.

“So you can say, almost with complete certainty, that he could be without problems in the preseason tests in Bahrain.”

Alonso returns to the grid this season after two years out of Formula 1. He is returning with Alpine, the former Renault team and will be teammates with Esteban Ocon in the 2021 World Championship.
