Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s new signings Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies will need time to adjust to life at Anfield after their “Hollywood” moves on Deadline Day.
Liverpool were one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs on the final day of the transfer window, with Davies arriving on a £ 1.6m move from Preston and Kabak joining in on a six-month loan from Schalke with a Purchase option.
The double signing came on the same day Liverpool confirmed defender Joel Matip would miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.
Neither Kabak nor Davies are likely to get involved against Brighton on Wednesday night, leaving Liverpool with no top center-backs available for the game.
When asked when the pair could make their debut, Klopp said: “We don’t live in an ideal world and that means we have to be smart, we have to be fast.”
“There are different things we can try to do to help them, but obviously we play differently than Preston and Schalke.
“They will need time, but we don’t have much, so we will use the time we have on our hands and do our best.”
“If they had to start together tomorrow night, I don’t think it would be very good. We’ll give them a few more days.”
In his first interview since joining Liverpool, Davies described the move as a “great opportunity” and Klopp agrees with the 25-year-old.
“We don’t need to see a Hollywood movie to see these kinds of stories, in soccer it’s possible too,” Klopp said.
“Preston yesterday, Liverpool today. That’s a good story and I really can’t wait to start working with the guys.”
“I am a huge fan of opportunities and giving opportunities. It is an absolute opportunity for the club, for us as a team and also for the boys. It’s great, we are going for it.”
Klopp: Van Dijk is unlikely to return this season
Klopp admits that Liverpool expect “a miracle” in the fitness of central defender Virgil van Dijk, who has been sidelined with an ACL injury since October.
Klopp agrees that Van Dijk is unlikely to play again this season, but Liverpool could include the defender in their squad to be sent to the Premier League for the second half of the campaign, hoping he will return earlier than planned. .
“No doctor told me that there is a possibility that Virgil will play again this season. I don’t want to say that it is impossible, but it is not likely,” Klopp said.
“I think we have room for Virgil on the Champions League list. If we have room for him, then Virgil will be on the (Premier League) list.
“If there is no space we have to make a decision. If he is on the list it is only because we expect a miracle, that is all.”
