The “crazy lies” of the far-right Republican congresswoman are “cancer for the Republican party,” McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said in a statement first shared with The hill.
“Someone who suggested that maybe no planes hit the Pentagon on September 11, that the horrific school shootings were pre-set, and that the Clintons crashed the JFK Jr plane is not living in reality,” McConnell said. “This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the strong debates about the fund that can make our party stronger.”
Ms. Greene is the first member of Congress to openly support the right-wing conspiracy movement QAnon, which claimed that Donald Trump, as president, was waging a covert war against a secret cabal of Satan-worshiping cannibals made up of Hollywood elites, Democratic politicians, and others.
CNN alleged that Ms. Greene has been cleaning up her social media accounts to get rid of the conspiracy-ridden content that she posted or liked in 2018 and 2019. Her account liked posts about the execution of Democrats in the Congress, including President Nancy Pelosi, too. like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
She has also been captured on video approaching David Hogg, a gun control activist who survived the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Ms. Greene has falsely claimed that the Parkland shooting was a “false flag” operation and that the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting took place.
His videos, comments and “likes” on social media have been marked by racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
Ms. Greene has tried to distance herself from some of those comments and endorsements, claiming she wasn’t responsible for everything on her social media.
“Over the years, I have had teams of people managing my pages. Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views, ”he said in a statement.
House Democrats drafted a resolution condemning Ms. Greene’s record of incendiary behavior prior to taking office and seeking to strip her of her assignments to the House Education and Budget Committees.
The resolution is Democrats’ way of putting pressure on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, giving him a deadline to censor Ms. Greene on his own. McCarthy plans to meet with Ms. Greene this week, after which he will decide whether to let her remain an active member of the Republican conference or expel her from its committees.
“It is my hope and expectation that Republicans will do the right thing and hold Representative Greene accountable, and we will not need to consider this resolution. But we are prepared to do so if necessary, “House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said in a statement Monday.
