LABORAL URGES MINISTERS TO APOLOGIZE FOR THE CLAIMS OF NOT OBTAINING NON-TARIFF BARRIERS

Labor MP Ian Murray asked if ministers will apologize to Scottish exporters for Boris Johnson’s claims that there are no non-tariff barriers to trade.

He told MPs: “Trade agreements with other countries, of course, will not make up for what we have lost by leaving the EU and day after day we see chaos in our ports, exporters are overwhelmed by paperwork and the result. They are Scottish companies. They are damaged.

“The lack of planning and the lack of service delivery of this government, coupled with the growing bureaucracy at our borders, is severely hampering our industries. Now, the prime minister said on Christmas Eve that the EU Brexit deal would mean, and I quote, ‘no, no … tariff barriers to trade.’

“This is demonstrably false. So (Iain Stewart) wants to take this opportunity to apologize to Scottish exporters who are completely hampered by the same non-tariff barriers to trade that the prime minister said didn’t exist.”

Stewart responded: “I don’t think it’s fair to paint it as a chaos and collapse in ports, traffic flows freely in most ports. There are and have been some short-term problems with paperwork, any new system has some potholes. in the short term, but we are interacting directly with affected exporters. “
