Two members of the US Army National Guard were removed from their duties during Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration due to ties to far-right militias, according to the Associated Press.
A US Army officer and a senior US intelligence official confirmed the decision to AP on condition of anonymity due to Department of Defense media regulations.
They did not say to which fringe group the Guard members belonged or in which unit they served.

A spokesman for the National Guard Office told AP: “Due to operational security, we did not discuss the process or the result of the investigation process of the military members who support the inauguration.”
Speaking from Washington DC, Sky’s US correspondent Cordelia Lynch said: “We have not been told which groups these two individuals belong to, but it is an indication of a level of concern in Washington DC.”
He added that there were “threats of an inside job”, but the National Guard does not comment on what the investigation process consists of.
Lynch said the FBI is looking at a large number of organizations and that there is “increased security and a greater sense of alarm.”
The increased security comes after the January 6 riots when Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.
