Gary Neville celebrated Manchester United rising to the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Burnley by targeting rivals Liverpool.

A Paul Pogba goal earned United all three points and saw them overtake Liverpool before a decisive clash between the two teams at Anfield.

Neville was covering the game for Sky Sports and posted a video on social media after the victory that showed him humming the song ‘Gary Neville is a Red’ that United supporters used to chant when he played.

The song is sung to the tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down” and the lyrics read “Gary Neville is a red, he hates Scousers”.

Reflecting on the victory and its importance before the trip to Anfield, Neville told Sky Sports: “It’s going to be a great preparation for Sunday’s game.

“Liverpool, the best team in the league last season by a stretch, and I think probably eight weeks ago, the absolute certainty of everyone to win this league.

“I still don’t think people are deviating too much from that, it’s not a time to get carried away because we know very well how quickly this season has changed.

“It was Chelsea five or six weeks ago having a great time, City were having a really bad time now that they are coming to the fore.

“Liverpool look strong and now Manchester United, who seemed dead seven or eight weeks ago.

“Everything is changing for different teams at different times and it could go backwards in three or four weeks.

“But like I said, it’s not going to stop Manchester United fans from getting carried away in the days to come.

“Why shouldn’t they? It’s been a really tough few years and at times it seems Manchester United are millions of miles from the top of the league.

“So to be at the top of the league, three points clear of a really good Liverpool, in January, is something that is not expected.”
