‘Non-Elite’ Soccer Suspended Due to Latest COVID-19 Restrictions

With England going into lockdown effective Monday night, most grassroots football is not allowed.

We take note of the announcement by the UK government on Monday 4th January regarding the new national COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown.

As a result, the impact on ‘non-elite’ football in England will include suspension of matches and training in the following with immediate effect:

  • Steps three through six of the National League system
  • Levels three to seven of the pyramid of women’s football
  • NLS Regional Feeder Leagues
  • Barclays FA WSL Academy League (unless you have elite status)
  • FA Girls regional talent clubs (unless they have elite status)
  • All indoor and outdoor youth and adult grassroots soccer, including those under 18 (except organized outdoor soccer for people with disabilities, which may continue)
  • Vitality Women’s FA Cup (which is currently classified as ‘non-elite’ at this stage of the competition)

It is extremely important that clubs, players, coaches, match officials, league officials, volunteers, parents, caregivers, and facilities providers adhere to the Government’s new COVID-19 national lockdown restrictions and we implore all to follow them .

The dialogue will continue with the Department of Culture, Media and Digital Sport, county football leagues, competitions and associations, and we will provide further updates for the 2020-21 FA Vitality Women’s Cup, Buildbase FA Vase and ‘non-elite’ football when is relevant. .

We would like to once again thank the football community for their hard work, endurance and understanding during such an incredibly challenging period for both the game and society at large.
