It seems likely that a new national lockdown will be imposed across England as the government was accused by Labor of allowing the coronavirus to “spiral out of control”.

The newspaper quoted a government source as saying that ministers were looking to put even more areas of England on the toughest Level 4, which already covers a total of 44 million people, or 78% of the population, after the changes. which went into effect on Thursday.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson signaled that stricter restrictions would be imposed in a few weeks, pressure mounted on the government to act much more quickly, as Labor demanded a shutdown within hours.
Opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the prime minister of presiding over a “chaotic” response to the coronavirus pandemic, as he insisted on further restrictions immediately to try to regain control of the situation.
Sir Keir told reporters that the prime minister should not hint at new restrictions in weeks, but act now.
The Labor leader said: “The virus is clearly out of control.
“We cannot allow the Prime Minister to exhaust the next two or three weeks and then install a national lockdown, which is inevitable.
“Do it now. That is the first step necessary to get the virus back under control.
Sir Keir, who spoke on Sunday as controversy raged over whether more schools should be closed, said it was “inevitable” that more classrooms would be closed.
Sir Keir insisted that the new movements must be “part of a broader strategy that has a national lockdown in the next 24 hours.”
He added: “The Prime Minister is hinting at it, but he is not. We cannot afford that delay again.
“Let’s not make the Prime Minister say ‘I’m going to do it, but not yet’, that’s the problem he has raised so many times.”
In response to the comments, a 10th source said: “The Prime Minister has always been clear that we are driven by the need to protect the NHS and save lives, unlike Labor who have spent the last ten months playing political parties.
“We have moved more areas to Level 4 to apply the new variant and have scaled other areas to Level 3. This specific approach is the correct one and is kept under review based on the most recent data.”
Johnson said that restrictions on the coronavirus in England were “probably on the verge of tightening” due to rising infection rates.
The prime minister told the BBC: “We may have to do things in the coming weeks that will be more difficult in many parts of the country.
“I am totally reconciled to that.
“Obviously, there are a number of stricter measures that we should consider.”
The prime minister also said new school closures were being reviewed.
