Jurgen Klopp describes Liverpool’s position in January transfer window

Jurgen Klopp “doesn’t know” if Liverpool can complete any transfers in the January market.

The Reds coach explained that it is a “very difficult window” for the clubs and that he has solutions in his squad for the injury problems that the Premier League champions continue to face.

There are strong calls for Klopp and Michael Edwards to accelerate the transfer plans that will come into play next summer as Liverpool have no recognized top center-backs available.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all injured and it was up to Fabinho to step back from midfield and replace one of the relatively inexperienced duos of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

“We have solutions in the team, obviously,” Klopp said when asked if he needs to dive into the market to reinforce the Reds’ ranks.

“But we are still struggling with the injuries that we have at this specific moment; it is happening most of the time in the midfield position.

“That’s clear. Some players are injured, he plays pretty fast like Joel [Matip] and get injured again.

“It can just happen like this, when it starts at one point and it just doesn’t stop.

“We have solutions in the team, but if we can do something in the window, I don’t know, it really is.

“It’s a very difficult transfer window, I’m sure you can imagine it.

“Not many clubs have real money, some clubs don’t have money but they don’t need money either, that’s the situation.

“He is a completely clear boy, he knows his skills and uses them to do his job.

“He helped us a lot and it was clear that he had to play [against Newcastle]I have only three middle halves right now and if Rhys had played Nat wouldn’t have played for five or six weeks and that doesn’t make sense for his pacing and things like that either.

“We have to think about it a lot and he did a very good job.”
