Jodie Whittaker of DOCTOR Who has been reported to have ceased to be the Time Lord after three years.
The 38-year-old actress became the first female star to take on the role of the famous character in 2017.
But she will leave after the next series, keeping the tradition of the Doctor regenerating after three stints in the TARDIS.
The Mirror reports that Jodie is eager to take on new roles, with the producers gearing up for the next regeneration.
A source told the publication: “Everything is very secret, but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are preparing for a regeneration.”
“His departure is top secret, but sometime in the next few months it will be necessary to film the arrival of the Fourteenth Doctor. It is very exciting.”
The Sun has reached out to Jodie’s representatives for comment, and the BBC declined to comment when approached.
Filming on the next Doctor Who series is expected to wrap up this summer, set to air in the fall.
The series has already been shortened to just eight episodes as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has slowed production.
Most of Jodie’s predecessors also dropped her role as Doctor after three series, including Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, and Sylvester McCoy, among others.
Jodie previously said that she cries just thinking about leaving the show, suggesting that this was not an easy decision for her.
She said at the time: “If I even think about leaving, it makes me cry. When it happens, I can anticipate what will be my most devastating moment.
“I absolutely adore it. At some point these shoes will be delivered, but it has not yet been. I’m holding on tight. “
The star made his debut in the 2017 Christmas special when he regenerated from Capaldi after being shot by Cybermen.
