People who attended a basement party in a North London restaurant have been issued fixed penalty notices for breaking the strict Level 4 rules.

Police were called to the scene in Haverstock Hill, Belsize Park, after receiving reports of several revelers entering.

Officers attended and found 10 men and 10 women in the basement on Sunday, December 27.

All received fines for violating Covid-19 regulations that prohibit homes from mixing indoors to stop the spread of the virus.

The Metropolitan Police released Bodycam images of officers entering the facility on Saturday.

Around 217 notices of fixed fines were issued and five more people were reported to the magistrates for consideration of a £ 10,000 fine.

In Essex, officers handed out over £ 18,000 in fines to organizers of unlicensed music events attended by hundreds of people in violation of lockdown rules.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of drug possession at the full ticketed rave with bars, DJ decks and Portaloos.

Met inspector Alex Hope-Rollinson said: “To date, more than 70,000 people in the UK have been lost to the coronavirus.

“Violations of coronavirus regulations like these are selfish, thoughtless, and ultimately put the safety and health of our community at serious risk.

“I urge people to familiarize themselves with the Level 4 rules and to absolutely avoid attending any meeting that violates those rules; it is vital that we work together to avoid overwhelming our NHS in the coming months. ”
