JOSE MOURINHO can’t stand his rivals flattering Marcelo Bielsa.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino are among the Leeds manager’s disciples, who have adored his training methods and hailed him as their Messiah.
But current Spurs supreme Mourinho, whose team host Leeds this afternoon, said: “I’m just a disciple of my father and I don’t like that situation in football.
“Even the younger coaches, even the people who worked with me before, I don’t like that: ‘Oh, they’re José’s disciples.’ Everyone is an individual with their own ideas. You can be influenced by one or the other but, in the end, what matters is the individual.
“And I think that talking about Mr. Bielsa is for people who know him well. I don’t know him well.
“I think he was the Athletic Bilbao coach in one of the seasons I was at Real Madrid. Now is the first time that we are in the Premier League at the same time.
“Sure he has to be a very good coach but I’m not the person to analyze it because I don’t even know him personally. I shook his hand a couple of times. “
The prospect of Luvvies’ favorite Bielsa taking on the Portuguese grinder will have bearded hipsters getting wet and excited at Colombia’s second division games.
But for all the nonsense of contrasting styles and philosophies, the Spurs have only scored FOUR fewer than the 30 Leeds have scored in the Prem so far this season.
And those of Mourinho have played one less game.
However, the current narrative is that Tottenham is negative, having drawn two and lost two of their last four league games.
Both draws, at Crystal Palace on December 13 and at Wolves on Sunday, ended 1-1 after the Spurs won 1-0 at halftime.
But not ending those games led to widespread accusations of negativity.
Mourinho said: “Nobody said that when Tottenham scored six goals against Manchester United, five against Southampton and three against West Ham.
“Nobody said that then and nobody would say it now if we had beaten Liverpool at Anfield.
“I accept a very pragmatic analysis which is that in some games Tottenham is winning 1-0 and in the second half they don’t produce enough to score more goals.
“I promise you that what is happening in our second time away from home when we are winning 1-0 is not something we want to do.”
