STEVEN GERRARD has hailed midfielder Joe Aribo as one of the Premiership’s greatest players as he continues to raise his standards for the Rangers this term.

Aribo got off to a frustrating start to the season as an injury kept him out of action for several weeks, but now he’s catching his pace at Ibrox once again.

The 24-year-old has produced a string of superb performances for Gerrard’s side during a long winning streak in the Premiership and is in line to start against Celtic this afternoon.

The victory in the Old Firm clash would be a declaration of intent from the Rangers and Aribo has been endorsed to continue to play a key role as the race for the top flight title unfolds.

Gerrard said: “He has played in this game before and done very well, but he missed out early in the season.

“He had a severe injury that kept him out for 12 weeks and that was difficult. It was a process where the staff worked very hard to prepare Joe, but then he had an illness that spanned from 12 weeks to closer to 16 weeks. “. .

“You’re looking at someone who has missed four months of football and it was always going to take five or six weeks for him to get back to his best level.”

“But what he has done in his last two or three games is he has announced to everyone that he is back in a good place. He is very close to his best and he is smiling again.

“In his first games back, I think he was a bit frustrated that his form wasn’t there because he hadn’t experienced that firing before.

“We had to get around Joe and tell him that it was a process and that it took time to get back to the best.

“But he’s certainly taken off his shackles lately and he’s certainly a pleasure to train when he’s using all of his attributes.”

“For me, when he’s at his best, he’s 100% one of the best players in the league.”
