An eight-year-old boy is among 420 people who have died from coronavirus in the latest figures released today.

Confirmed reported deaths of people dying from the virus in English hospitals now stand at 50,668.

The eight-year-old had underlying health problems.

According to the most recent statistics, the patients were between eight and 100 years old. All but 12 (ages 55 to 90) had known underlying health problems.

The date of their deaths is from November 24 to December 31, 2020.

Birmingham Hospitals have put in place an action plan to protect QE, Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals.

Hospital bosses say they are “borrowing” nurses and reopening suspended wards and that staff are on their knees.

For the first time since May, Solihull Hospital has been forced to admit Covid patients because others are too full. Health chiefs had deliberately kept Solihull “Covid-free” for other medical and surgical patients.

Ambulances lined up outside Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham

This occurs when the West Midlands Police closed a series of New Years meetings last night.

West Midlands Police received 700 calls reporting suspected Level 4 rule violations.

Of these, 20 “significant” rule violators were found and the force issued notices of fixed penalties.
