GMP said 105 fixed fine notices (FPN) were issued between 5 p.m. on New Years Eve and 7 a.m. today.
Most were given to people attending house parties, the force said.
Deputy Police Chief Chris Sykes said: “We are pleased that the vast majority of people have followed the government’s request to stay indoors and celebrate within their home or bubble of support.”
“It was not the way any of us wanted to enter the New Year, but we are grateful for the public’s support.
“2020 has been a difficult year for everyone in the region, including our hard-working agents and staff. I would like to thank you for rising to the unprecedented challenges we have faced.
“Unfortunately, there were a number of incidents last night that required his continued professionalism.
“I am confident that the majority of our residents, who think correctly, will join me in condemning this irresponsible, life-threatening behavior.
“I urge people to stand firm during what will hopefully be the final months of restrictions. Protect your loved ones, others and our NHS by following government rules.
“If everyone does their part, we can look forward to a brighter year.”
