Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his Manchester United team that he is not guaranteed a stronger XI as he defended his use of rotation.
Solskjaer made six lineup changes for United’s most recent game, a 1-0 win over the Wolves. He is likely to shuffle things again for his clash with Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
With United looking to compete in the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the coming months, Solskjaer knows that the rotation will be vital.
For that reason, he refuses to suggest that some players are more important than others.
“We have a strong team and we have rotated a lot,” Solskjaer said. “We haven’t really called it an established XI because I don’t think this season is going to be about that anyway.
“It’s going to be about the team. It’s about the 25 players.
“I think towards the end of the season that will help us. It has to be done this way.
“When you leave Scott [McTominay] and Fred is not easy because they deserve to play all the games, but Nemanja [Matic] and paul [Pogba] He played very well against Everton.
“There will be injuries and suspensions, so I think our team is capable of being ready for every game.”
Solskjaer explains the rotation approach
Solskjaer knows all about how players can be affected by rotation. Sir Alex Ferguson once benched him one game after scoring four goals.
However, the manager knows that players will have to deal with situations like that at a United-level club. He will choose the most appropriate players per game.
“They are course horses,” he explained. “You think that some players are better suited for some teams but of course you plan ahead.
“I remember those four goals and I also remember the times you feel that you deserve to play and you are out. That’s part of being at Man Utd.
“You have the best players everywhere. We know that throughout the season if you are going to win something you have to contribute.

“Anto [Anthony Martial] Came in and got it right for half an hour Luke [Shaw] came and did very well [against Wolves]. This is how it will be.
“The players will have to be mad at me until the next time they play because, trust me, they are not happy when I tell them to start on the bench.
“We have to know that many games are decided towards the end. It’s very rare that you can blow up teams and win at half time. Then the subs will come and make a difference, that has happened to us so many times.
“The faith is there and the discipline is there to play a certain way. We are getting more and more used to the way we want to play, and we know we have players who can beat you games in a second.
“An incredible pass or dribble, some skill. The belief is that we don’t have to hit the panic button. “
