Once again, Dubai has spared no expense and ushered in the New Year with one of the most expensive fireworks displays to date.
Thousands of people, including some 200,000 tourists, played in 2021 in the luxurious city of the United Arab Emirates.
Although the coronavirus pandemic ground some people, it did not deter others from flying to Dubai, one of the world’s top destinations for New Year’s Eve.
Unlike previous years where bystanders stood shoulder to shoulder, the pandemic saw the strict enforcement of social distancing.
Everyone had to stand in the marked areas while wearing a mask at all times.
The celebratory fireworks at Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world, lasted just under seven minutes and displayed the flag of Pakistan.
Hamdan bin Mohammed, the crown prince of Dubai, said he hoped 2021 would be better in his New Year’s message.

He tweeted to his 42 million followers: “We end this year with optimism that 2021 and beyond will be better, brighter and happier for all of us.
“With faith, determination and confidence, we are prepared to overcome any challenge and maintain our goals. Happy New Year to everyone from the United Arab Emirates to the world.”
A recent survey of 50 cities ranked Dubai as one of the three most expensive destinations to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Christian Fairway, who flew in from South Africa on Sunday, said: “It’s great to see a city celebrating the New Year, especially at times like these.
“It has become my favorite place to celebrate the New Year.”
Visitors pay an average of £ 220 per night, but some hotels like Al Jaddaf Rotana offer packages starting at just £ 70 for food and drinks.
Haytham Omar, General Manager of Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel, said: “There is clearly an appetite in Dubai for extravagant experiences. Dubai residents and tourists have high expectations of the city.
“Therefore, the industry must always look for ways to meet these expectations and go further.”
But for those on a bigger budget, they can enjoy a three-night stay in a suite at the recently opened Me by Melia Hotel in Business Bay with full board and a new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Roadster to get around town.
In addition, you will also receive a watch from Jacob & Co.’s Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon collection included in the package that costs £ 1.75 million.
You can keep the car and see that the hotel claims it is the most expensive package in the world.
